Research Interests
Mechanisms and transmission dynamics of antimicrobial resistance in various bacterial species, including Enterobacteriaceae, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, non-tuberculous mycobacteria.
Prevalence and spread of resistant bacteria in different environments such as wildlife, farm animals, retail meat, aquatic systems, and wastewater.
Phenotypic and genotypic aspects of bacterial resistance.
Current Research
My current research focuses on investigating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in micro livestock, particularly grasscutters, and free-range local chickens in Ghana. With the rise of AMR posing a significant global health threat, this research aims to assess the prevalence of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and resistance genes in these animals. The study also seeks to characterize antimicrobial usage patterns among farmers, explore the factors contributing to AMR in micro livestock and local chicken farming, and implement educational programs to promote responsible antimicrobial use. By addressing these aspects, the research intends to contribute to global efforts in combating AMR, thereby safeguarding animal and human health in Ghana.
Research Goals
Develop effective strategies for controlling the spread of resistant pathogens.
Investigate the economic and societal impacts of antimicrobial resistance.
Inform policy and promote sustainable practices in healthcare and animal production.
Contribute to the global effort in mitigating antimicrobial resistance through innovative research and collaborative approaches.
